Join Toku-Book Readers Alpha to help me make Tokusatsu history!

I am MJ Muñoz, the author of Grobug Tales, a series of Children’s Picture Books as well as a Chapter Book about magic guardian bugs that protect children’s smiles. I need your help, as devoted fans of tokusatsu, to read and assess literary toku projects. Your passion and knowledge of the genre will be invaluable in shaping these tales into something truly special.

Goal

Produce a series of high quality books inspired by Ultraman, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai that all take place in a single world. Whether the 3 types of henshin heros are in a single book where they interact, each has their own book, and they crossover or each has their own book set in the same world, but they don’t directly know each other, they will share a universe with each other. Once the stories from that tokusatsu-world are concluded, we can move on to a new world and get new heroes, new stories and explore new genres, people and places. In the world of books anything is possible and there are no limitations on what we can see in this new world of Tokusatsu-inspired Literature I am tentatively calling Henshin Prose.

Method

Being that the henshin hero shows I love are formulaic, I want to start with that. I will utilize templates and the trope of the genre as the seed or outline of these storeis, then I will expand them and use the power of the medium to tell stories that are consistent and scratch that tokusatsu itch, but go beyond the re-used footage and mecha fights every episode. I want to explore these characters and conflicts in a more profound way, while keeping things fresh and fun by continuously iterating and shifting genre and tone from project to project.

On AI

My preference is to make 3 books a year and I want to leverage AI to make these books happen. To answer the objection to AI, I had ChatGPT help me write the following this very this letter. AI is a tool to augment human creativity rather than replace it. Ultimately, human authors are still responsible for shaping the narratives, evoking emotions, and imparting unique perspectives in their works. By embracing AI, writers can harness its capabilities to enhance their creativity, efficiency, and reach, ultimately contributing to the flourishing of human literary endeavors. Am I the only one who watched and understood Zero-One? Impossible! 

I will ethically use AI as a tool and I will tell people what parts of my work are AI assisted.
