| Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi now working as a mercenary, and his apprentice, Shin Hati, assault a New Republic cruiser to rescue Morgan Elsbeth, who had previously been captured by Ahsoka Tano.[a] Elsbeth informs Skoll that Ahsoka is searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn, who has been missing for years after previously being defeated by Ezra Bridger.[b] Ahsoka and Huyang obtain a star map to the location of Thrawn (and potentially Bridger) before being informed of Elsbeth’s escape. Regrouping with the fleet, Ahsoka meets with General Hera Syndulla, whereupon Huyang reveals that the star map is still locked. Syndulla advises Ahsoka to obtain the help of Sabine Wren, Ahsoka’s former Padawan, in unlocking the map. Just as Wren unlocks the map, she is confronted by Shin, who steals the map and stabs Wren during a duel. | |||||

Blog Version
Hey there, it’s MJ. I’m a writer, an artist, and someone who loves picking apart the intricate threads of Star Wars. So, I’ve got this podcast, and in my latest episode, I’ve set my sights on dissecting “Ahsoka,” the premiere episode of the series of the same name. Buckle up, because I’m about to take you through my rollercoaster of thoughts, from admiration to some serious eyebrow-raising moments.
Starting with a Fresh Perspective
I’ve got a rule: each episode of a series should stand on its own merits. So, I’m diving right into “Ahsoka” with that in mind. And guess what? There’s a lot to like about it. But there’s also something that irked me right off the bat, and I couldn’t wait to share it.
Survival and the Art of Dramatic Wounds
Let’s talk about Sabine Wren. I’m all for the miraculous healing capabilities in the Star Wars galaxy, but Sabine’s survival after that gut-wrenching injury? That’s where I draw the line. I even throw out a playful suggestion – why not a dramatic hand amputation? It’s a bit of my signature quirky take on things.
Character Arcs: An Intriguing Shift
Now, when it comes to character development, Sabine’s shift between Rebels and Ahsoka caught my attention. Her personality seems to have taken a few steps back, and it’s a head-scratcher for me. Especially given Dave Filoni’s history of tight storytelling, I’m left wondering why certain decisions were made.
Deciphering the Force-Sensitive Enigma
Here’s where things get really perplexing – Sabine’s sudden Force sensitivity. Going from a Mandalorian warrior to an apprentice under Ahsoka’s wing is a huge leap. I’m scratching my head over the lack of a clear explanation for this transformation. I even jest about midichlorian doping, that’s how baffled I am.
Finding Comfort in Continuity
Hats off to the series for weaving in threads from the past. Those little callbacks, like Huyang’s return, hit the right nostalgic notes for me. It’s a nod to the long-time fans, and I’m all for it.
The Duel with Lore Debates
Now, that prison ship assault scene? Wow, it’s a standout moment. The action choreography is top-notch, and I’m all in. But then there’s Morgan Elisabeth, a character that seems a little out of place. She’s pegged as a Nightsister, but something doesn’t quite match up with the established Nightsister vibe. It’s a head-scratcher, and I’m eager for an explanation.
Wrapping Up the Hyperdrive of Thoughts
With my knack for detail-oriented analysis and my straightforward storytelling style, I’m here to guide you through the journey of “Ahsoka.” As a fervent Star Wars fan, I’m celebrating the show’s strengths while also giving a raised eyebrow to its continuity and character shifts. So, until the next episode, may the Force guide your way.
