raman 13 is a great inflection point for the story. I would be happy if the story stopped here. I am content to wait to see what further adventures and intrigue will sweep up Shinjiro and his allies.
Ultraman 12 is an exciting set up for the finale that provides answers and introduces new questions for the audience as well as a lethal threat for the heroes to overcome.
Ultraman 11 gives Rena a graceful exit from the story for now and attacks the question of what it really means to be Ultraman from yet another angle. My suspicions about Edo and the Star Cluster Council grow and I am excited to see how this all works out!
In Ultraman 9 a new Ultraman burst onto the scene. I do not know what to make of this kid. He feels like an element added in to complicate the narrative and broaden the story.
Ultraman 8 is a bit of a mixed bag for me. The action is top notch. The handling of the moral questions is a bit clumsy. The sudden reveals and twists on twists threw me for a loop. Overall, I enjoyed the escalating complications and the additional intrigue introduced.
In Ultraman 7, the series comes more into focus for me. I think I now understand what the core concept being explored is: what is a good Ultraman?
Moral and ethical conflict comes to the foreground in Ultraman 6 as Shinjiro struggles with what it means to bear the curse of being Ultraman. My thoughts on this are only partly formed and I will not give much more time to them in preparation for releasing this post. The inclusion of Dan Moroboshi as an Ultraman who is content to be a merciless killer makes me simultaneously happy and uncomfortable.
It is funny (to me) how I keep drawing connections between this Ultraman story and other science-fiction. This week, I saw a lot of similarities between the way the SSSP operate and the MIB.
Being that episode 4 features the Limiter, I am glad I held off looking into the possible connections between Iron Man and Ultraman. What I found might surprise you.
Episode 3 sees Shinjiro embracing new truths about himself and the universe as he grapples with the consequences of things set into motion long before his birth.
