Kamen Rider Gavv Episode 2: Chips, Chuckles, and Surprisingly Deep Themes

Hey there, Rider fans! MJ Muñoz here, diving into episode 2 of Kamen Rider Gavv. Let me tell you, I’m still adjusting to the whole potato chip gimmick, but this episode surprised me in more ways than one!

The Ridiculous and the Relatable

First off, I’ve got to address the elephant in the room – or should I say, the potato chip in the belt? The concept is absurd, but writer Junko Komura somehow made me emotionally invest in a conversation about potato chips. I’m both impressed and slightly annoyed at how well it worked!

A Tale of Two Businesses

What really grabbed me was the contrast between Sachika’s “Happy Parade” service business and the nefarious Stomach Inc. It’s a fascinating exploration of ethical vs. predatory business practices. Sachika’s approach of creating mutual happiness through fair exchanges is beautifully juxtaposed against Stomach Inc.’s literal consumption of humanity.

Emotional Connections and Power-Ups

I’m intrigued by the idea that Shoma’s power-ups might be tied to foods with strong emotional connections. It’ll be interesting to see if this expands beyond memories of his mother to include his new friends.

Consumable Items and Deeper Themes

The fact that Shoma’s Gochizo items disappear after use adds an interesting layer. Could this be a commentary on the ephemeral nature of things and gratitude? I’m curious to see how this plays out thematically.

Final Thoughts

While I’m still adjusting to some of the more commercial aspects, at its core, “Gavv” is delivering some surprisingly thoughtful content wrapped in a ridiculous potato chip package. The monster designs are cool, the character interactions are engaging, and I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing where this goes.

What do you think? Are you digging the chip gimmick, or is it too much? Let me know in the comments!
