I am working hard to get Axel’s Arcade Book 1 finished. I feel really good about this book because I think it works on a few levels
A) It tells a good stand alone story, it has a solid beginning, middle and end and our hero goes on a journey that leaves him changed, but with plenty of room to grow.
B) It makes for a great series starter
C) It has the potential to lead to a sequel arc or sequel series, I’m not sure how to phrase that properly. What I mean is these 3 books I have planned tell one story and there is a strong possibility for readers to read this then go on to a different book with Axel and enjoy that story with him as well
D) It connects to the broader world of Grobug stories I have. The Grobugs are kind of like my Narnia, or my Wardrobe, they are the vehicle for the magic that makes these stories possible. I have already written 4 Grobug bed time books that for small kids. Those books have Grobugs saving kids from the monsters that attack them. This happens all the time in the Grobug world, but what makes these stories special is that the kids get more involved with stopping the monsters than most kids do. Besides that I have a chapter book written that focuses on the Grobugs themselves. It takes place in their world, so to speak, and shows a group of them growing up and learning how to fight those monsters and protect human children.
E) While Axel isn’t a little kid, his adventure IS deeply woven in with the Grobugs and some persistent enemies of theirs.
Anyway, I reworked the blurb. Please, tell me what you think.
Axel’s Arcade Escape BLURB (2):
Eleven-year-old Axel would rather live in a video game than deal with his family. When a buggy game cabinet transports him inside, he jumps at the chance to be the hero he always knew he could be! But when his fantasy world starts glitching a mysterious figure appears and make Axel an offer: become the eternal master of the game world or go back to his imperfect home. Axel’s arcade is a thrilling middle-grade adventure about family, friendship, and finding the courage to face reality.
