I know a girl who has everything I want and can’t have. Everyone likes her. Her parents are happy and her sister looks up to her the way I wish someone would look up to me. People in the village welcome her and she has such a good time doing whatever she wants. So many of the villagers share things with her, she has learned so many things. Whenever I come around, they get quiet or tell me to run along.
This year at the festival, she even won the prize. I don’t know how she beat me, I thought I had it for sure. When she stood up above me and everyone cheered for her, I saw her sister in the crowd. She was looking at her with those eyes again, so light, almost shining. I wanted those eyes to see me with the same pride and admiration. She had enough already! When would it be my turn? When will anyone look at me with those eyes?
