Lava is the codename for this character who produces heat from her body. I originally came up with the silly idea of having an old lady who is a retired superhero who bakes cookie dough balls in her hands one at a time as part of a children’s book that features over a dozen of my heroes and was on the topic of food. The idea was a lot of fun for me and the family, but I came up with a edgier side of “Granny” as well. I figured she had been a young “Flag Hero” once and that she had used her powers for the good of her Government. I have further developed her and I have some interesting ideas for what to do with her. That got me thinking about what her suit might look like were she to be a spy or saboteur in a Northern African country in the mid 1920’s. This was my first idea. It is pragmatic and straight forward. There is no shine or slick design to it, other than the “vent” at the top of her head that could develop into the “volcano spout” I put on her silly Golden Age Comics costume. I even came up with a clever idea for how her clothes don’t burn up, she wears a fire salamander skin which does not burn. It is said that King Solomon had a garment like that.
