Crafting the Grand Beast of Flame

Rewritten from transcript by Claude (https://www.anthropic.com)

Hey everyone, MJ Muñoz here, and welcome to another 10-minute drawing session! Today, I’m diving into the creation of the Grand Beast of Flame, a character from a story I’m working on. Initially, I planned for this to be the second beast in the series, but I accidentally labeled it as number one, so we’re sticking with that!

My goal with this Grand Beast was to give him a unique body shape that contrasts well with the other three beasts. I initially considered making him serpentine, but then I thought, “Why not make him look more like a flame?” I liked the idea of an undulating, flickering form for his body, always maintaining an S-shape reminiscent of a flame.

As I continued to brainstorm, I realized I didn’t want him to be just a snake. Instead, I envisioned a cross between a worm, a salamander, and a candle. You can see this prompt in the upper left-hand corner of the drawing.

Now, here’s the interesting part: this character is supposed to be a villain or related to the villain of the story. However, looking at the final result, I don’t think he comes across as particularly villainous. In fact, I think I did a good job of making him quite cute! Especially in the last image, he feels a bit like a Disney mascot to me.

I don’t mind him having a simple face, as it’s rather accurate to a salamander, but it might be a little too friendly for a villain. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this. Could this guy be the villain? Does he successfully embody the essence of a flame?
