Ultraman Blazar Episode 12 – “Let’s Go Blazar!”

Hey tokusatsu fans! MJ Muñoz here, ready to dive into Ultraman Blazar episode 12. Buckle up, because this episode’s got a lot to unpack!

Earth Garon: The Rail Gun Godzilla

First off, can we talk about Earth Garon? This mecha is like a Godzilla robot with a rail gun, and I’m living for it! The design team must have had a blast creating this toy-friendly powerhouse. That modified Mega Shot? Absolutely incredible. It’s visuals like these that make tokusatsu so exciting.

Blazar’s New Weapon: The Tilsonite Sword

The Tilsonite Sword is a cool addition to Blazar’s arsenal. It’s fascinating how Gento and Blazar’s partnership allows for new abilities, like transforming the rod into a sword. The energy absorption feature is a nice touch, even if I’m a bit fuzzy on how it all works. But hey, it looks cool, and that lightning-riding finisher was epic!

Expanding Universe and Timeline Questions

Captain Haruno’s mention of a “second wave” has got my tokusatsu senses tingling. It implies a larger narrative at play, possibly connecting to events from three years ago. I’m curious to see how this fits into the overarching plot.

The timeline in Ultraman shows always intrigues me. Why the three-year gap between Blazar’s first and second appearances? It’s an interesting choice that I hope pays off narratively.

Resolving the Confusion: Blazar’s Motivations

Remember my confusion from episode 10? Well, this episode cleared things up nicely. Blazar’s extreme violence stems from his desire to protect Gento (and by extension, himself). It’s an interesting dynamic – Blazar wants to end threats quickly to minimize damage, while Gento sometimes holds him back for moral reasons.

This raises some intriguing ethical questions. Is it better to go all-out immediately to prevent further destruction, or should there be restraint even when facing kaiju? It’s a complex issue that the show handles well.

The Zordon Doctrine vs. The Blazar Doctrine

This got me thinking about Power Rangers and its “Zordon Doctrine” of escalation. Blazar takes the opposite approach – go hard and fast to eliminate threats quickly. It’s an interesting contrast to other tokusatsu series, and I appreciate how Blazar explores this more aggressive strategy.

Comparing to Other Ultra Series

It’s fascinating to compare Blazar’s approach to other Ultra series like Ultraman Rising and Ultraman Arc. Each show seems to have its own philosophy on dealing with kaiju threats. I’m curious to see if Arc will have a similar “questioning of killing kaiju” episode as Blazar and Z did.

Wrapping Up

Overall, this episode was a blast. It resolved previous confusion, introduced cool new elements, and gave us plenty to think about regarding the ethics of kaiju-fighting.

Don’t forget to check out my own tokusatsu-inspired writing projects! I’ve got a story called “Eva and the Grobug” that features a little girl transforming into a giant of light to save her parents. If you’re a tokusatsu fan, I think you’ll dig it.

I’m also working on a middle-grade novel that’s about 23,000 words long – just a bit shorter than Squall Charlson’s Terror Valley series. The Grobug books will be packed with tokusatsu elements that I think fans will really enjoy.

Stay tuned for more Ultraman Arc coverage, and keep an eye out for my upcoming Digimon content on a different channel. I’ve noticed some interesting Ultraman influences in Digimon that I can’t wait to share with you all.

Until next time, folks. Be well, be Ultra!
