Ultraman Blazar Episode 16: Terror from the Underground – An Analysis
Hey there, Ultra fans! MJ here, diving into Ultraman Blazar Episode 16, “Terror from the Underground.” This episode brought some impressive visuals and intriguing character moments, so let’s break it down!
Impressive Direction and Visuals
The episode’s direction really stood out, especially in how it portrayed the massive holes:
- Great perspective shots showing the scale of the craters
- Clever use of foreground, middle ground, and background
- The night scene with the waxing moon was particularly striking
- The low-angle shots during the fear response scenes were very effective
Mogusion: A Creepy Kaiju Design
Mogusion’s design was both cool and unsettling:
- The mole-like appearance fits its underground theme
- The hand design with pink gloves and extra fingers was a clever, creepy touch
- The confusion-causing ability ties nicely into its name (possibly derived from ” mole” and “confusion”)
Emi’s Mysterious Fear
The reveal of Emi’s fear being a giant version of herself was intriguing:
- It’s left unexplained, with Emi calling it a “secret”
- Could it relate to her past as a spy or her father’s research?
- The kaiju-sized Emi vs. Blazar fight was a fun visual
Blazar’s Battle Tactics
Some interesting moments in Blazar’s fight:
- The rainbow slash being caught and used against him was a clever twist
- Blazar’s “panic” at the inadvertent building destruction showed good suit acting
- The eye-closing effect (turning off the lights in the mask) was a neat detail
Toy Commercial Vibes
The Tilsonite sword scenes felt a bit too much like a toy commercial:
- Multiple shots showcasing the toy’s features
- It slightly detracted from the overall enjoyment, but not significantly
Character Moments
- Yasunobu’s disappointment at not meeting Earthy first was a cute touch
- Gento’s fear of failing a mission adds depth to his character
Wrapping Up
Despite the heavy-handed toy promotion, this episode offered some great visuals and interesting character developments. Emmy’s mystery and Mogusion’s creepy design were definite highlights.
