Going Ultra! Ultraman Comes to Amazon Prime Video – Why This is Great News

Ultraman’s New Streaming Home
There’s been some buzz lately about Tsuburaya Productions’ mysterious teaser videos announcing “Ultraman is coming to Amazon.” I’ve noticed some fans were concerned about Ultraman leaving Pluto TV, but I think this move to Amazon Prime Video is actually great news for several reasons.
First, let’s clarify: Ultraman is still available on Tubi and Shout Factory. If you prefer those free options, they’re still there! But for those of us with Amazon Prime memberships, this new addition brings several key advantages.
Why Amazon Prime is Better for Ultraman Fans
As someone who watches Ultraman with my kids frequently, I’m genuinely excited about Amazon Prime’s features:
- Downloadable episodes for offline viewing (perfect for travel or internet outages)
- Higher video quality than what’s available on Tubi (noticeably better)
- No ads for Prime members
- Easier navigation system focused on what you want to watch
This creates a much more seamless viewing experience, especially for families. My boys love Ultraman Geed in particular, and being able to download a whole season in high quality is a game-changer for us.
What’s Available on Amazon Prime
From what I’ve found so far, the Amazon Prime Ultraman collection includes:
- The original Ultraman
- Ultraman Ace
- Ultraman Geed
- Ultraman Orb
- Ultraman Ginga S
- The Ultraman Blazar movie (not the series yet)
This appears to be content that was previously released through Mill Creek Entertainment. The newer YouTube-first series like Ultraman Z, Decker, Blazar (series), and Arc aren’t on Prime yet.
Interestingly, I also discovered that Kamen Rider has been added to Amazon Prime as well, which seems to be part of the same licensing deal. This is perfect timing with the Anniversary of Kamen Rider’s first airing coming up!
Thoughts on Ultraman Omega
There’s been a teaser for the upcoming Ultraman series, Ultraman Omega. The promotional video gives us glimpses of the new Ultra’s face, crest, and possibly an Eye Slugger weapon (which reminds me – why are those called “sluggers” when they’re thrown instead of used for punching?).
From leaked images, Omega appears to have a distinctive red face, which is an interesting design choice compared to the typical silver Ultra faces we’re used to. I appreciate this emphasis on color variation.
Final Thoughts
This Amazon Prime development represents another step in making tokusatsu more accessible to Western audiences. While I understand some fans might be concerned about content moving between platforms, having Ultraman available on Amazon Prime creates another convenient option for watching these shows.
As a selective buyer of physical media (I only purchase the shows I truly love), I appreciate having flexible viewing options. I’ve bought the original Ultraman, Blazar, and plan to get Z once it’s released on Blu-ray.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the Ultra Series, this expanded availability can only be good for the growth of tokusatsu fandom outside Japan.
