Ultraman Omega Episode 2 – Story Solid, Action Slips

Ultraman Omega Episode 2 continues to expand on the show’s intriguing world and characters—but the action didn’t land quite as well this time around.

That’s surprising, especially considering the same creative team from Episode 1 returned:
🖋️ Writer: Toshizo Nemoto
🎬 Director: Masayoshi Takesue

These two have a strong track record together, including standout episodes in Ultraman Blazar (“Night of Insects Chirping,” “Battle in the Sky”) and Ultraman Arc (“On the Kaiju’s Tail,” “Welcome to the Akebono Inn”). So what gives?

Still Strong: Characters and Chemistry

Even if the fights felt less dynamic, the character work stayed sharp.

We finally get Sorato’s human name: Sorato Okita—a name Kosei literally makes up on the spot to protect Omega’s identity. Their odd-couple energy continues to shine, especially in moments like Cos threatening to withhold yakisoba if Sorato doesn’t cooperate. It’s great.

We also meet Ayumu, a researcher of endangered species. Her approach to kaiju is scientific and empathetic—treating them more like mysterious wildlife than monsters. That angle could open up some powerful ethical questions as the series unfolds.

The Hobo Ultraman and His Hunger

Omega/Sorato’s behavior continues to amuse. He’s chill, low-energy, and just wants a meal. He has partial amnesia, but flashes of knowledge leak through: he knows kaiju by name, knows his powers drain his stamina, and he even hesitates to fight when a kaiju isn’t actively attacking anyone.

He’s not a gung-ho warrior—he’s thoughtful and strangely kind, even in battle.

The Fight… and Its Implications

This episode’s kaiju, Dugrid, releases poisonous gas when injured. Sorato figures this out mid-battle, and instead of dragging things out, he destroys it in one clean, vaporizing blast. It’s a smart move—less collateral damage, less ecological impact.

It’s subtle, but it shows his growing judgment. And it raises the question: was this a mercy kill?

Wild Theory Time: Did Sorato Bring the Kaiju?

In Episode 1, Omega crashes to Earth after blowing up a kaiju-infested planet. Here’s my theory:
👉 When he fell, the kaiju—or their spores, essence, something—came with him.
👉 The kaiju we’re seeing on Earth now were seeded during his arrival.

Could Omega’s fall have caused the very crisis he’s now trying to solve?

Final Thoughts

Episode 2 didn’t wow me with action, but it did deepen the world. The relationships, humor, and light mystery around Sorato’s identity keep things compelling.

I’m invested. And curious. How will this world adapt to kaiju? What’s Ayumu’s real role? And will Sorato remain chill… or be pushed past his limits?

And I’d love to hear what you thought. Drop a comment below, on YouTube or X/Twitter
