2026 Books Completed

January

1. Silver Buster Book 1 – BUY

Silver Buster follows a British teen who bonds with a symbiote fleeing mercenary aliens. It’s a fast, fun light novel series with a strong tokusatsu and sci-fi action vibe. REVIEW.

2. How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps – BUY

This send-up of The Legend of Zelda is a book I return to whenever I’m looking for a good time. It’s one of the very few first-person books I genuinely enjoy. REVIEW.

February

3. The Alchemist – BUY

I love this book deeply. Its beauty and simplicity inspire me every time I listen to it. REVIEW.

4. Dragon School: First Flight – BUY

Book cover of Dragon School First Flight by Sarah K L Wilson, middle grade fantasy novel

I checked this out to help a friend. I’m glad I did, but not because I liked it. It isn’t a bad book, but it isn’t very good either. REVIEW.

5. A Hero Born – Book 1 of Legends of the Condor Heroes – BUY

I listened to it and then waited a week or two, then I listened to it again 🙂 I might be getting co-opted. REVIEW.

March

6. The Living Shadow – BUY READ FREE

Vintage pulp cover for The Living Shadow by Maxwell Grant showing the mysterious vigilante known as The Shadow staring from beneath a black hat.

The Shadow is a Pulp icon who heavily inspired Batman. Without him there would likely be no Red Panda either… REVIEW.

WIP

7. The Giant Chronicles: Tip of the Spear – BUY

Book cover of The Giant Chronicles: Tip of the Spear by Larry Whitaker featuring a large ancient handprint over a compass-like symbol, suggesting a story connected to giants and ancient mysteries.

Larry Whitaker worked on one of my favorite childhood movies: FernGully! REVIEW.

8. The Princess and the Goblin – BUYREAD FREELISTEN FREE

Illustrated cover of The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald showing Princess Irene and the miner boy Curdie emerging from a cave in a classic fairy tale scene.

The first time I read it I was terrified and delighted. George MacDonald is a treasure. REVIEW.
