E.K. Johnston’s Star Wars: Queen’s Shadow introduced me to Padmé’s Handmaidens and the details of the resurrected Naboo tradition of the Royal decoy system. This comic features Moteé, who is not featured in the book, as I recall. I wonder if she is being set up here for use in future stories. The Handmaidens are rich characters who have a lot of potential; it was a lot of fun to see them featured here. Queen’s Shadow features very little action but it works well because the intrigue and political maneuvering can convey tension separate from immediate physical threat or danger. That works especially well in a book, less so in a comic book. I think this comic suffered a little from being a modicum too much like the YA novel.
