Episode 14 Four-Dimensional Capriccio September 26, 2020
Writer: Kota Fukihara
Director: Kiyotaka Taguchi
With the sudden appearance of the Four-Dimensional Monster Bullton, the STORAGE base is thrown into chaos! Time and space become warped and twisted, transforming the STORAGE base into a dimensional prison. Meanwhile, Haruki is confronted with a mysterious phenomenon!
ULTRA-BAD
-The dimension looping was a bit lacking. Maybe that story mechanic is so well worn that it takes a lot for it to work well.
-I wanted to see Yoko form her resolve like Haruki did
ULTRA-COOL
-The new opening and closing songs are cool.
-It was cool that I could here the difference in the lyrics, sorry for tooting my own horn there
-That kaiju was wild. The change of pace it offered was quite enjoyable
ULTRA-GOOD
-Even Yoko is questioning the good of having a weapon so powerful as King Joe. That’s deep. The fact that she doesn’t hesitate to use it when the need arises brings a weightier nuance to the matter.
-Haruki and Z coming to an understanding and tapping into new powers with Gamma Future feels purposeful and meaningful. He couldn’t quite get to that place until had learned more about himself.
-Haruki meeting his dad or at least thinking he met his dad was beautiful. The scene was so well crafted. I believe this is the third time we have been to this point and this really builds on those scenes. In fact, I am tempted to go back and watch little Haruki thinking about his dad meeting adult Haruki.
ULTRA-DEEP
Did adult Haruki meeting Mr. Natsukawa help inspire his dad to sacrifice himself to help inspire little Haruki?
I think the answer to this is yes. Strap in while I try to prove it! Haruki asked Masaru how he would handle a terrible situation when people’s lives were at stake. Masaru gave an answer and then almost chided himself because he wasn’t fit to be giving such advice, possibly because he didn’t think of himself as a real hero. Then as they were shaking hands, Masaru realized that he was talking to his son from the future. Masaru taking young Haruki bye the hand and sending him away to protect Mrs. Natsukawa felt so profound when I first saw it, that I think it is safe to say that Masaru remembered this and acted not only to save who he could then, but so that Haruki could go on to do the same. I think Haruki’s tears told Masaru he was dead in his future and he was affected by that from then on. The question was quite transparent and Masaru realized that Haruki must be involved in something HUGE, so he did everything to be an ideal man and hero for his son to follow after.
