Ultraman Omega 13 – Going Ultra – Presented by Henshin Inspection
The video and audio above contain the full unfiltered analysis. What follows is the razor focused version of the strongest point I had to make.
Ultraman Omega Episode 13 Completely Kills the Momentum
I am so disappointed in Ultraman Omega Episode 13 because it’s a clip episode that I do not feel like we needed. I really do not understand why it’s here.
Omega 12 finally felt like the series was gaining momentum. It finally felt like we were building toward something, and then everything comes to a screeching halt with this recap episode.
I do not like it at all.
Why Do Modern Ultraman Series Keep Doing Clip Episodes?
There’s always a clip episode in modern Ultraman. Sometimes two.
Z had one. Ark had them. Omega will probably have another one too. And they always seem to show up right after something dramatic or climactic happens.
If that is intentional, then I guess the idea is to create room to breathe after something intense. But personally, I hate that approach. I do not think it makes sense at all.
If the audience is excited and invested, why would you stop the momentum right there?
Keep the story moving.
Are Ultraman Clip Shows Just About Saving Money?
My theory is that clip episodes exist to save money. I do not know if that is true, but they almost always appear after effects heavy or important episodes.
The weird thing is they still shoot new material anyway. They still have actors filming framing scenes. They still use kaiju suits. They still use locations.
So why not just make an actual low budget episode instead of replaying footage we already watched?
Better Alternatives to Ultraman Clip Episodes
There are so many better ways to handle this.
Do a slice of life episode. Do an Ultra Q style mystery. Do a weird cooking competition because Sorato likes food. Do a human sized Omega story where he helps Pigmon get home.
Do literally anything that develops the cast or the world instead of stopping the story dead for a recap.
If you need a cooldown episode after something dramatic, fine. But make it an actual story.
Omega Episode 13 Makes the Worldbuilding Feel Weaker
What frustrates me even more is that this episode weakens Omega’s worldbuilding.
Sorato casually says he is going to fly Pigmon back to his island, but Omega’s setup was supposed to be that kaiju are new to this world. They are supposed to be a shocking and unfamiliar threat.
Episodes like this make the rules feel inconsistent, and that inconsistency is one of the reasons I’ve been so up and down on Omega overall.
Ayumu Should Have Figured Out the Truth Herself
Honestly, I think I would have preferred Ayumu figuring things out on her own.
She seems intelligent enough to piece together that Sorato is Omega. That would have given her more agency and made the episode feel less passive and inconsequential.
Instead, everything here feels soft. Weak. Feeble.
The Cast of Ultraman Omega Deserves Better
The frustrating thing is that I actually do like the cast.
Omega can do strong emotional storytelling when it wants to. That is what makes these clip episodes feel so disappointing. They kill the momentum right when the show should be pushing harder.
What Even Is a “Clip Show” Anyway?
Also, where did the term “clip show” even come from?
That is another mystery entirely.
Final Question
Do Ultraman clip episodes actually help the pacing after major story events, or do they completely kill the momentum? And if recap episodes are necessary for production reasons, what would you rather see the series do instead?

Ultraman Omega 13 Feels Like a Momentum Killer

Omega 13 is a clip show, and I really do not understand why.
Omega 12 finally felt like the series was gaining momentum. It finally felt like we were building toward something, and then everything comes to a screeching halt with this clip episode.
I do not like it. I do not really have much good to say about it.
What frustrates me is that this seems to happen a lot in modern Ultraman. The clip episodes always feel like they arrive right after something dramatic or climactic happens. If that is intentional, then I guess the idea is to create room to breathe after something intense. But personally, I hate that approach. I do not think it makes sense at all.
If the audience is excited and invested, why would you stop the momentum right there?
And if the point is budget or production scheduling, then there are still better ways to handle it. In the main analysis, I talk about alternatives that could still be inexpensive while giving the audience a cooldown period if the production really thinks one is necessary.
Slice of life stories. Ultra Q style mysteries. Character episodes. Anything that actually develops the cast instead of replaying footage we already watched.
If you like clip episodes or want to defend them, I genuinely want to hear why. Maybe there is something I am missing here.
